Yolk - Food store found in the eggs of most animals. It is very rich in protein. In the eggs of vertebrates (other than mammals) the yolk is found in the yolk sac which is a pouch of the embryo gut. Youk is absorbed from the sac which gradually shrinks and is itself absorbed into the embryo before hatching.
