Who can Apply?
An applicant who is accepted on a course of study at an educational establishment approved by an organization which is included on the UK's Department for Education and Skills (DfES) Register of Education and Training Providers and is either:
(a) a publicly funded institution of further/higher education; or
(b) a bona fide private education institution (with properly maintained enrolment and attendance records); or
(c) an independent fee paying school outside the maintained sector the applicant may pursue any of the following courses a recognised full-time degree course; or
a course run during the week involving at least 15 hours of organised daytime study each week of a single subject (or directly related subjects); or a full-time course at an independent fee paying school. If under 16 years, the applicant must be enrolled at an independent fee paying school on a full-time course of studies.

The categories of persons considered as students are:
1. Students
2. Student nurses.
3. Postgraduate Doctors and Dentists.
4. Students writing up a thesis.
5. Students re-sitting an examination.
6. Prospective students.

Conditions
Applicant should intend to leave the UK on completion of studies, except for students applying for courses that lead to the, award of a degree.
Applicant should not intend to engage in business or to take employment, except part-time or vacation work or a work placement that is part of the- course or an internship.
Applicant should be able to meet the costs of the course, accommodation and maintenance (including for dependants) without taking employment or engaging in business or having recourse to public funds.

Procedure
1. An applicant must obtain an application form (VAF1 - non-settlement) from the British mission nearest to his place of residence or take a printout.
2. All relevant documents applicable to the application should be collected and submitted along with the application form and relevant fee at the address applicable to the applicant (address given under 'Where to Apply').
3. The Entry Clearance Officer (ECO) will try to take a decision on the application with the help of the supporting documents as provided by the applicant.
4. If this is not possible, he will need to interview the applicant. 5. ECO will refuse the application if he finds that any document provided by the applicant is forged.

A letter from the host or sponsor in the UK to say that they will support and provide accommodation during the studies, with evidence that they can do so.

Note: In some cases applicant may have II conditional" offers of acceptance for courses/ studies based on achieving certain examination results. If the examination results are not available at the time the application is made for visa, the application will be deferred until confirmation of acceptance is produced.

Additional Documents Required
Any relevant diplomas or educational certificates, degrees.
Proof of previous studies plus a good knowledge of English.
Provide an original certificate from an organisation which tests English ability. Two such organisations are International English Language Testing System (IEFTS) and Text of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
A letter from the university, college or school confirming the acceptance on a course of study in the UK, and statement of fees & charges for the course. An applicant should normally provide an up-to-date letter from the school, college or university containing the following information:
The type of course.
What qualification it will lead to.

The duration of the course.
The number of hours of organised daytime study per week, or confirmation that the course is a full-time degree course at a publicly funded institution or a full-time course at an independent fee-paying school.
The cost of the course.
Whether the fees have been paid in part or in full.
The level or stage reached (if continuing a course).
Evidence of government sponsorship (if applicable).
Bank statements, pay-slips or other evidence to show that the applicant can pay for the stay and for the course of studies in UK.
