Who can apply?
Investor visa is issued to an applicant who has substantial funds to invest in the UK and who genuinely wishes to settle in Britain and make it as his home. Applicant need not work full-time running a business in the UK and may engage in self-employment if he so desires (but may not engage in any other employment in the UK). Applicant under this category does not require work permit.
Applicant need not have a close connection with the UK to qualify for entry. Nor there is a minimum age requirement, if not a retired person.

Conditions
Applicant must have at least £1 million as his own money, which is actually under his control and can be disposed in the UK, and is not held in trust; OR
Applicant must have his own personal assets (after deducting liabilities), worth more than of million; and
Applicant must have not less than of million under his control in UK. (This can include money loaned by a financial institution regulated by the Financial Services Authority.)
Applicant must demonstrate his intention to invest not less than £750,000 of his capital in the UK by way of UK Government bonds, share capital or loan capital in active and trading UK registered companies (excluding those principally engaged in property investment and excluding investment through deposits with a bank, building society or other enterprise whose normal business includes acceptance of deposits and off shore companies).
Applicant must demonstrate his intention to make the UK as his main home.
Applicant must provide evidence that he can support self and dependants and live without taking employment or recourse to public funds.

If applicant is a retired person of independent means:
. Applicant must be able to produce evidence that he is at least 60 years of age.
. Applicant must be able to produce evidence that he has an income of at least £ 25,000 a year and the same can be transferred freely to the UK.
. Applicant must be able to produce 'evidence of any property owned by him in the UK.
. Applicant must be able to produce evidence as to how he will be legally transferring the money to UK.
. Applicant must provide evidence that he can support self and dependants and live without taking employment or recourse to public funds.
. Applicant must be able to demonstrate his intention to make the UK as his main home.
. Applicant must be able to prove that he has a close connection with the UK. For this purpose, the applicant must:
Have close relatives in the UK.
Have lived in the UK at any time.
Have worked for a long time with a British company.
Have had business contacts in the UK for a number of years.
Note; Applicant must be able to describe the circumstances as above in detail and enclose letters of support from the above with the application.

Important
1. Applicant must be able to transfer and dispose of the money freely. Funds which are jointly held by an applicant and spouse / civil partner are also acceptable provided
(a) he/she is also coming to the UK with the applicant;
(b) both apply for the visa together, and
(c) both have unrestricted rights to transfer or use capital and no other person should have a controlling interest in the money.
2. A sum not less than a of million may include investments as well as convertible currency. Any major assets in the UK, such as unmortgaged property, may also be taken into account provided these do not make up more than £250,000 of the total sum required. Personal effects (e.g. jewellery, paintings, antique furniture) will not be counted as assets unless these items are held purely for investment purposes. The applicant must produce satisfactory evidence of the real value of such items (insurance valuations are not acceptable as these estimate the replacement value only).
3. As a general rule, investments must be made in the applicant's name to be acceptable to the Home Office, who decide the suitability of applications.

Additional Documents Required
The applicant should submit all the available Documents proving the qualification & eligibility to enter UK for this visa.
In case of retired and persons with independent means details of income and close connections with the UK, must be submitted.
Applicant is advised to read the conditions as explained above carefully and fulfill the conditions with supporting documents.

Note: Husband, wife or eligible partner and children under 18 can accompany the investor visa holder as dependants in the UK. Conditions and documents required remain same as explained in 'Overseas Domestic Worker earlier, Applications under this category are referred to the Business Casework Unit ICD, Whigift Centre, Corydon for final decision. Dependents are allowed to work as long as they have permission to stay in the UK as dependents.
