England is a country of great contrast and diversity both in respect to the places and the people. All the regions of England are within easy reach of the exciting capital city, London, famed for first class culture, fascinating history and pageantry, its world-class restaurants and theatre. England's North Country has the scenic splendour of lakes and mountains, castles, dramatic coastlines and glorious National Parks, combined with the medieval city of York, lively Blackpool and Manchester, world renowned for its football. In south there is a gentler landscape; quiet country lanes and inland waterways, the shimmering fenlands of the east coast and Stratford, Shakespeare's birthplace and the university city of Cambridge.

Scotland is known for whisky, golf, romance of the clans and a wealth of castles and historic sites. The Highlands area is one of the last wildernesses in Europe. Scotland is just over four hours by train from London to Edinburgh and with frequent fast flights to its major cities. The country has nearly 800 islands (130 inhabited), most accessible by ferry. Popular excursions include Iona, with its ancient monastery, and Skye, romantic refuge for Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Wales captivates visitors with its rich character and landscapes. The Welsh speak their own Celtic language as well as English and have their own culture, poetry and song, which they celebrate in concerts and unique summer festivals known as ' eisteddfodau' . Walk long distance paths like Offa's Dyke, the centuries-old border with England; scale the heights of Cader Idris (home of a mythical giant!); cycle along country lanes, golf, fish or indulge in watersports along some of the best beaches in Europe.
