Important Information for Student Applicants Students enrolled for Professional Courses

Applicants enrolled for professional courses such as banking or accountancy are normally granted visa as a student for the duration of the course on which they are enrolled plus two months to allow students to await their exam results, make domestic arrangements or enroll on another course.

Students enrolled for Short Foundation Courses
Applicants enrolled for a short foundation course as a specific precursor to a degree or similar course are normally granted visa to cover the duration of both courses/ plus 4 months or until 31 October after the end of the degree course provided they are fully enrolled on the Second course. This provision does not apply to students taking general courses/ for example, A Level or HNC/D, which may qualify them to go onto a degree.

If the applicant has not enrolled on the second course/ or if the final acceptance is dependant on successfully passing the first course, visa is normally granted only for the duration of the foundation course, plus the 4 months or until 31 October if it is clear that the applicant is intending to continue studies in the publicly funded sector.
Students enrolled for HNC and HND Courses (private or publicly funded institutions)
Applicants enrolled for studying HNC or HND courses at either a private or publicly funded institution are normally granted visa for the duration of the HNC or HND course plus 4 months or until 31 October after the end of the course depending on whether it follows the normal academic year or not.

Students enrolled for BTEC and Equivalent Courses
Applicants enrolled for studying BTEC and equivalent courses are normally granted visa for the duration of the course plus 4 months.
Students enrolled in Other Courses at private education institutions
Applicants enrolled in vocational type courses are granted visa for the duration of the course (up to a maximum of 12 months) plus 2 months.

Students enrolled as Short-term Students
Applicants enrolled as students studying English or those enrolled on any other short course of six months duration or less and who indicate the intention to take part time employment, subject to meeting the requirements may be granted visa for the duration of their course up to 6 months at a- time.
If the course is for over six months, the visa may be granted to cover the period in question up to a maximum of 12 months.
