Immigration Permit
South African government does not encourage immigration due to existing unemployment of unskilled and semi-skilled workers in their country who are otherwise entitled to employment opportunities. Due to the very reason, no one in the unskilled and semi-skilled categories will normally be accepted as an immigrant worker.

The present immigration policy of South Africa lays great emphasis on broadening the economic base by concentrating especially on getting of those immigrants who are in a position to render a meaningful contribution to South Africa's economy.

Who can apply?
. Holders of Work permit visa, their dependents and dependents of Residence Permit holders who are legally residing in South Africa while applying for Immigration permit.
. Doctors intending to migrate would be judged on their own merits and the decision is made on Government to Government basis.
. Applications for immigration must be submitted in the respective South African Mission in India.
. All applicants are subject to compulsory interview.
To be eligible for Permanent Residence Permit the applicant must fall in anyone of the following categories and fulfill the listed requirement. For further details the applicant is advised to contact the embassy / mission since applicants can not place themselves in specific categories. They would be subject to a personal interview by a High Commission Official after obtaining a non-refundable processing fee of $ 1155.00 in equivalent Indian Currency.

1. Workers
. Applicant's age should be between 18 to 51 years.
. Applicant should have a firm employment offer from South Africa.
. Applicant must have obtained registration with a relevant South African body.
. Letter from the employer explaining the necessity to appoint a foreigner to fulfill the vacancy.

2. Family Reunion Scheme
. Applicant' should be economically sound but without an employment offer.
. Undertaking from the family residing in South Africa to bear all financial needs of the applicant and his family in South Africa.

3. Spouses & Children
. Applicant should be a spouse or child of either a South African citizen or Permanent Resident of South Africa.
. Proof of marriage.
. Proof of financial stability of the person residing in South Africa:
Income proof like salary.
Bank statement/ s.
Any other means to support spouse and dependents.

4. Persons who are sponsored
Applicant should be an impoverished, aged or unwell family member of the sponsor.
. Proof of financial stability of the person residing in South Africa:
Income proof like salary.
Bank statement/ s.
Any other means to support the applicant.
. In case where the applicant himself is financially sound:
Applicant must apply in own right such as retired etc.

5. Retired persons
. Proof of financial stability:
Financial assets which are ready to transfer to South Africa.
Amount ready to be transferred.
.Proof regarding assurance of continued income of sufficient extent from abroad while the applicant is in South Africa.

6. Fiancé(e)'s
. Proof of engagement to Permanent Resident or South African citizens.
. Such applicants are considered acceptable in their own right.

7. Financially independent persons (Investors) (no age bar)
. Applicants willing to transfer R15,00,000 to South Africa of which R7,00,000 to be invested in South African economy in the form of fixed deposit with financial institutions OR by way of acquiring immovable property for a period of 3 years.
. Such applicants are granted permit for a period of 3 years.

. If these conditions are found to be futile after residing for 3 years then the Immigration Permission will be withdrawn.
. Holders of such Immigration permits are refrained from working or establishing their own business without the approval from DHA.
. Any change in address must be notified to DHA during this period of 3 years.

8. Own Business (no age restriction)
. Applicant should be in a capacity to provide sufficient funds towards maintaining himself and his dependents living.
. Applicant should be in a capacity to transfer minimum finance requirement:
- As determined by Immigrants Selection Board (with /without consulting other bodies) which is sufficient to establish a business, considering the nature and extent of the business proposed.
. Applicant who fulfills the above requirements would generally be granted a permit based on the following:
Permit holder to furnish the following after 1 year of residency in South Africa:
(a) Documentary evidences that at least two South Africa citizens or Permanent residents (not family members) have been employed by the company and are working.
(b) Documentary evidences that the amounts as determined by the Immigrants Selection Board have been utilized for the purpose intended.
If any new business need to be started:
Submit feasibility study with respect to that business.

9. Own Business in Partnership or Co-operation
Applicant desiring to join hands with more than one person or join a continuing established business in South Africa as a partner, would generally be granted a permit based on the following:
. Permit holder must submit proof of substantial contribution to
South African economy after lapse of 12 months.
. Permit holder to demonstrate proof of provision of full time employment for minimum two South African citizens or Permanent residents who are not the family members of the permit holder.
