About Singapore
Singapore is located in south-east Asia at the southern tip of the Malaysian Peninsula, between Malaysia and Indonesia. It has a total area of 632.6 sq km of which 622.6 sq km is land. Singapore is an island with 193 km of coastline. The country is a focal point for southeast Asian sea routes.
Singapore consists of one main island, and 58 smaller ones. The terrain is flat lowland, the highest point being Bukit Tima Hills, standing at 164 meters. Its climate is hot (ranging between 22 and 30 degrees centigrade) and muggy (humidity remains at 75%). The rainy season is from November to January, although being near the equator, intermittent rains occur throughout the year.
The people of Singapore are a mixed bunch: majority of people (77.3 per cent) are Chinese, the Malays make up 14.1 per cent, the Indians 7.3 per cent and others 1.3 per cent.
