Schengen Visa in Norway
An applicant can be granted a visitor's visa if he/ she intend to travel to Norway as a tourist, on a family visit, on public business or a business trip, a study visit or any other reason which does not require a work or residence permit.

A visa for Norway and the rest of Schengen area has a maximum duration of '90 days. The visa cannot be extended once the holder has entered the Schengen area. Exceptions may be made if unforeseen circumstances arise after the holder's arrival in the Schengen area and the original visa was issued for less than 90 days. However, the total duration of stay in the Schengen area cannot exceed 90 days in the course of last six months. The visa granted by Norway is valid for all countries in Europe that are party to the Schengen agreement.

A visa is generally issued for a single entry. If the applicant plans to travel outside the Schengen area and return within the period of the visa the box for 'Two entries' or 'Multiple Entries' must be ticked on the visa application form. The application must be accompanied by an explanation as to why two or more entries are required.
In case of an emergency for an extra entry after arrival in Norway, the same must be applied for via the police in the same way as an application to extend visa. The applicant must also attach sufficient documents to support his application (e.g. for business meeting, or to visit family outside the Schengen area).

Documents Required
. Application form as per Annexure Norway-I duly filled in Capital letters and signed.
. Original passport with validity for at least three months after expiry of visa.
. Old, expired passport/ s (if any).
. Two sets of Questionnaire as per Annexure Norway-III.
. Two recent passport size photographs.
. Two photocopies of first and last page of the applicant's passport.
. Two copies of the travel itinerary.
. Two copies of the international health insurance policy for not less than 30,000 Euros, covering the entire travel period of the applicant.
. Two photocopies of the Draft of processing fee along with the original. .
. Two sets of documents proving the funds to cover the stay period OR
. Two sets of Guarantee Form for Visits (GP-7018) as per Annexure Norway-II duly filled in and signed by the Police Department's foreign-nationals section in Norway.

. If the applicant is not staying with any sponsor in Norway attach confirmed hotel booking in Norway covering the entire stay.
. If the visit relates to business:
Two copies of the invitation letter from the business partner of the applicant in Norway.
Two copies of latest communication between the applicant and the company in Norway.
Covering letter from the applicant to the Norwegian embassy explaining the reason of visit.
. If the visit relates to family visit:
Two sets of invitation letter from the relative staying in Norway.
Two sets of Guarantee Form for Visits (GP-7018) as per Annexure Norway-II duly filled in and signed by the Police Department's foreign nationals section in Norway. Two copies of the first and last page of the sponsor's passport.
. Any other document as demanded by the consular section.

Note: If the application is processed at the Norwegian mission in India, it normally takes around 7 to 14 days before any reply to the application is received. It all depends on the workload at the Norwegian mission. The applicant is at liberty to ask the mission regarding the processing time when applying. If the application is forwarded to Norway and the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI), the processing time will be longer.
Applicant will have to produce original Air tickets before the visa can be issued to him/her.
If the visa is denied for any reason, the applicant may appeal a decision reached by the mission in India, and his/her case will be sent to the UDI for consideration. If the decision of UDI is appealed, the same will be sent to the Immigration Appeals Board (UNE) for consideration. No fee is charged for the processing of appeals.
