Visiting relatives

Applicant is allowed to stay with his/her relatives in Netherlands for a maximum period of 6 months. To qualify under relatives category following relationship applies:
Spouses or those registered under civil partnership.
Blood relatives:
1st degree: Parents and children.
2nd degree: Brothers, sisters and grandparents.

3rd degree: Uncles and aunts.
4th degree: Cousins.
In-laws:
1st degree: Brother-in-law, sister-in-law, sons-in-law, daughter­ in-law, father-in-law, mother-in-law and stepchildren.
2nd degree: Stepbrothers; stepsisters and stepparents.

Conditions
Applicant must be a relative of the person to whom he/ she wants to visit in the Netherlands and he/ she should be able to prove this with official and legalised documents.
Applicant must not be a threat to public.

If the applicant sponsors his/her own trip: he / she must demonstrate proof of sufficient income.
If the relative in Netherlands sponsor the applicant: Relative must prove sufficient means of support.
Applicant must have a return ticket or documents proving sufficient funds to purchase a return ticket.

Documents Required:
If the Indian applicant is a family member/relative other than a child or parent (i.e. 1st degree blood relative) :
Copy of the applicant's passport.
Netherlands relatives proof of sufficient income.
Copy of the details from the Municipal Personal Records (GBA) of the Netherlands relative showing family composition, which is not older than 6 months.
Copy of identity papers in case relative is a Dutch citizen or copy of residence permit or copy of passport showing the residence permit.

Documents proving the family relationship between the Indian applicant and the Netherlands resident (e.g. birth certificate of the Indian applicant, marriage photographs, marriage certificate or extract from the municipal population register of Netherlands etc.).
Documents to prove the family relationship between the Indian applicant and the Netherlands resident prior to the shifting of the Netherlands resident from India.
Documents to prove that the family relationship between the Indian applicant and the Netherlands resident is still maintained even after his/her shifting to Netherlands
If Indian relative has sufficient means of support, the Netherlands sponsor or any other relative of the Indian applicant staying in the Netherlands should complete and sign the Appendix "Guarantor's declaration" in the application form.

Notes:
1. If the applicant is unable to enclose the foreign documents, he/ she should explain the reason as to why, in a separate letter;
2. When the applicant applies for a residence permit after reaching the Netherlands, he/she will be examined for tuberculosis.
3. Residence permits are not renewed or extended under this category.
4. If the applicant decide, for instance, that he/ she want to live of his/her own and work in the Netherlands, he/she should apply for a residence permit. The new application will be reviewed again by the IND.
