Notes: 1.When applicant applies for a temporary residence permit after reaching the Netherlands he/ she will be examined for tuberculosis.
2. The residence permit is, in principle, issued for a period of 1 year. After this the residence permit can be extended for subsequent one year period, provided the applicant continue to meet the conditions.
3. Student can stay in the Netherlands, for a maximum period of the number of year required by his/her studies, plus a further of 2 years. This time may be preceded by a further preparatory year, in case the student is studying in higher education.
In case, the student is changing subjects, the number of years he/she has already studied in the Netherlands will be deducted from the maximum duration of his/her new study.
The same can be explained with the help of an example:

Example 1 :
Suppose the duration of the study has been determined to be 4 years. This means a student can stay in the Netherlands for a maximum period of 6 years plus one year as preparatory year (if applicable).

Example 2:
Suppose the student after studying for 1 year decides to change to some other study with study duration of 4 years. If the student has not previously studied in the Netherlands, than he/ she would have had a maximum of 6 years for this study. But now the years the student have already spent in the previous study (which the student abandoned without completing), will be deducted from these 6 years. Therefore the student now have a maximum of 5 years for this new study.

4. The fee for extending the residence permit is EURO 285.
