Who can Apply?
Patents who wish to receive medical treatment in the Netherlands can apply under this category and can obtain a residence permit valid for the duration of the treatment.
Family members of the patent can also apply for a residence permit under family reunification (refer visiting relative earlier) in order to stay with the patent in Netherlands during the entire period of the treatment.

Conditions
Netherlands must be the most appropriate country for the treatment.
Medical treatment must be necessary.
Applicant must have sufficient funds to pay for the trip, accommodation/living in Netherlands and for the treatment. Applicant should not constitute a risk to the public in the Netherlands.
Applicant must undergo a tuberculosis test in the Netherlands upon arrival.
Note: In case the applicant is not able to meet, the conditions above and there is a medical emergency, there is still a possibility that he/ she may obtain a residence permit under the condition that, there is a medical emergency and failure to receive early treatment would most likely result in early death, disability or any other kind of serious mental or physical harm to the patint.

Documents Required
Valid passport of the applicant.
Signed declaration of background. Consent form
Original typed medical certificate from the treating physical in India explaining the illness and the necessity of treatment in the Netherlands. This certificate should not be older than one month.
Proof of applicant's international Health Insurance Covering the entire expenses to be incurred in the Netherlands. OR Proof to the extent that the applicant has properly organised and arranged the finance towards the expenditure to be incurred in the Netherlands
Passport size photographs of the applicant.

Notes: 1. If the patent is granted a residence permit for a medical emergency his/her spouse/partner and children may also be granted a residence permit even without meeting all the general conditions.
2. In principle, the residence permit is issued for a period of one year.
3. Application for extension of the residence permit can be made after the applicant is assessed by the IND. In general, resident permits are extended for a period of 1 year, but will always expire 1 month before the expiry date of the applicant's passport.
4. Under exceptions, when the IND determines that the treatment may last longer, a residence permit for 5 years may also be issued.

5. The fee for extending the residence permit is EURO 285.
6. Applicant under this category can also be eligible for a residence permit for continued stay i.e. permanent residence permit provided:
Applicant has held a residence permit for medical treatment for 3 years and have met the conditions for the residence permit during these 3 years, and
Medical treatment will still be required for at least one more year.
7. Residence permit for continued stay under such circumstances is issued for a period of 5 years, and must be renewed every 5 years.
