An au pair is a young person between 18 and 25 years of age who lives temporarily in a host family. The au pair is provided with accommodation and meals in return for carrying out simple household tasks. The aim of the au pair should be to improve his/her language skills and discover life in Netherlands through involvement in the life of the host family.

Conditions
Applicant related:
Applicant must have a health insurance with coverage in the Netherlands.
Applicant must not be married.
Applicant must not have any responsibility, towards his/her own family members in India.
Applicant must not constitute a risk to the public.
Applicant must undergo a tuberculosis test in Netherlands.
Applicant must be between 18 and 25 years in age.
Applicant should not have previously stayed in the Netherlands on a residence permit.
Applicant must not have worked for the same family previously anywhere.
Applicant must be ready to carry out light domestic work to assist the host family.

Applicant must be prepared to work for a maximum of 8 hours per day and a maximum of 30 hours per week, with 2 days off per week.
Host family related:
The host family must consist of a minimum of 2 persons.
The host family must support the Au pair during his/her stay in the Netherlands.
The host family must have sufficient income to support themselves and the au pair. .
Responsible person from the host family must sign a guarantor's declaration.
Responsible person from the host family must sign a declaration of awareness.

Documents Required
Au pair related:
Copy of valid passport.
Legalised unmarried status declaration.
Signed declaration of background.

Legalized birth certificate.
Legalized documents proving that the applicant is not responsible for the care of his/her own family members in India.
Signed declaration, of awareness.
2 colour passport size photographs.
Copy of return ticket or documents proving sufficient funds to purchase a return ticket.

Host family related:
A guarantor's declaration.
Copy of the details from the Municipal Personal Records
Database (GBA), showing the family composition which is not older than 6 months.
Description of the au pair's daily schedule.

Description as to how the au pair will be introduced to the Dutch society and culture.
Proof of income to support self and the au pair with proper documentation.

Notes:
1. When au pair applies for a residence permit after reaching Netherlands he/ she will be examined for tuberculosis.
2. The period of validity of the residence permit will not be longer than 1 year.
3. Au pair can only apply for extension provided he/ she wants to work as an au pair for another host family or he/ she wants to study in Netherlands. Under these circumstances only an au pair can apply for a new residence permit.
