Who can Apply?
This visa is issued to the prospective student applicants, who are to study at a high school (secondary school), it’s equivalent in case of blind or handicapped students or for higher education at an advanced vocational school or at a general vocational school for general education or at some educational institution which is equivalent to a vocational school in terms of facilities and curriculum.

Conditions
a. In case where the applicant is to study at a high school, he or she should not be more than 20 years of age and should have studied Japanese as a language for at least 1 year at an educational institution.
Note:- This condition however is not applicable to applicants who are accepted for study through a student exchange program or other equivalent international exchange program of the national government, an educational foundation or a non-profit organization.

b. In cases where the applicant is to study at a higher or general course of study at an advanced vocational school, or at a vocational school (excluding the study of solely the Japanese language).

- The applicant must have studied the Japanese language for at least 6 months at one of the Japanese language institutes designated by the Minister of Justice in the Official Gazette and also approved by the Minister of Education.
 Additional Documents Required
1. Copy of Admission certificate from educational institution where the applicant intends to study.
2. Diploma etc. with other documents proving the career of the applicant.
3. Supporting documents to establish that the applicant enjoys sufficient assets / scholarship money, or other means of support to meet his or her expenses while in Japan, unless someone else will pay for the applicant’s expenses.
4. In cases where the expenses incurred during stay in Japan are to be paid by another person:

- Provide sufficient documentary evidence to prove the income of the sponsor and a letter / evidence from the sponsor specifying the reason for taking such a burden. (See Annexure Japan-II)
Note:- Applicant is not permitted to work during the entire stay in Japan.

Activities authorized to be engaged in
 Activities to receive education at high schools, high school courses of schools for the blind or of handicapped children’s schools, higher or general courses of miscellaneous school (kakushu gakko and senshu gakko), or of other educational institutions that are equivalent to Kakushu gakko schools in facilities and curriculum. Applicants must fulfill certain conditions regarding ability to pay living expenses, etc.
