Conditions for all Applicants seeking entry into Italy
Admission to Italian territory is permitted only under the following conditions:
-One must be in possession of a valid passport or equivalent recognized travel document.
- One must be in possession of a valid visa.
- One must not be prohibited to enter through an alert in the Schengen Information System
- One must not be considered as a threat to Italian public policy, national security or the international relations of any of the Contracting parties, under Italian law or law of Schengen State.
- If the absence of any of the above prerequisites one may be denied entry into Italy by the border Authorities even if  one is in possession of a valid visa. The possession of a visa does not give an automatic right of entry to  Italy, because the Border Authorities may always refuse an entry on being unsatisfied.

Proof of Sufficient Means of support
- Liquid cash
- Bank Guarantee
- Insurance Policy guarantees or equivalent credit instruments.
-Any other documents demonstrating access to sources of income in Italy.

Every person seeking entry into Italy must indicate the existence of appropriate accommodation within Italy and the availability of funds for returning back (this even includes prepaid return travel ticket).
No visa can be issued if one fails to produce evidence of means of subsistence in Italy. Incase such evidence cannot be produced to Border Authorities, the applicant will be turned away from the Italian Airport/Sea port etc.
Table below demonstrates the requirements of subsistence for admission to Italy. This is required for persons falling under the category of business, medical treatment and an accompanying person, sports competition, religious reasons, persons in transit and tourism.

If the applicant’s trip is sponsored by an inviting party in Italy, the only proof of funds accepted for a visa application is the issuing of a “Fidejussione bacteria” by an Italian Bank or Insurance company for an amount equivalent to those shown above and for maximum period of 90 days.
When Entering Italy
In accordance with article 5 of T.U. no. 286/98, within 8 working days of arriving in Italy one must apply for a “Permesso di Soggiorno” (permission to stay) at the local “Questura” (Police Commissary).

Rejection of visa
Written reasons shall be issued from the Authority responsible for issuing visa, when an application for an entry or re-entry visa is rejected. The same will be served on the applicant together with instructions for appealing against the decision, along with a translation in the language which the applicant understands or otherwise in English, French, Spanish or Arabic.
