About Short Stay Visa (Schengen Visa)
Short stay visa is issued as Schengen visa, permitting entry into 15 European countries termed as "Schengen Territory" (comprising of Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Holland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Sweden Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway). This entitles the visa holder to stay for a period ranging from 5 to 90 days in these countries. It is a single / multiple entry visa which means that a visa holder may re-enter and leave French territory without having to apply again for visa subject to the duration of his stay not exceeding the validity period of the visa. If the visa is for thirty days, then this facility of re-entry and exit can be used for a period of three months. If it is for 90 days, then this facility of re-entry and exit can be used for a period of 6 months.

In this visa category, there is a special visa called Circulation Visa. This visa is valid from one to three years and entitles its holder to make several trips to France and to the Schengen zone for a maximum stay of 90 days per period of 6 months, renewable depending on the validity period of the visa. This type of visa is issued to people like businessmen who make frequent trips to France (At least twice a year).

While planning a trip to Europe with likelihood to visit several other European countries falling in the Schengen Zone, visa applications must be submitted in the Embassy or Consulate of the country in which the applicant intends to stay the longest. In case of ambiguity on the period of stay in several countries, the visa will be issued by the Embassy or the Consulate of the country which the applicant would be entering first.
Prior appointment should be obtained with Attache for Scientific Cooperation in case of individuals going on a scientific mission and with the Cultural Attache at the cultural section Tel: (91) (11) 30410000 in case of persons going on a cultural mission.
