Marriage in Belgium

Who can apply?
Aspiring applicant must be traveling to Belgium to marry a Bel­gium citizen or a foreign national (including Indian National) legally residing in Belgium.

Documents required
. Two copies of duly completed and signed visa application Forms.
. Two passport size photos of the applicant.
. Valid passport of the applicant with validity of at least 12 months.
. A medical certificate, (see Annexure BEL-III) obtained from the doctor designated by the Belgian embassy or consulate, dated and not older than 6 months from the date of application.
. Police clearance Certificate of the applicant which should not be older than 6 months from the date of application and covering the period of previous 5 years.
. An official copy of the marriage notice form (acte de declaration de marriage/ akte van aangifte van het huwelijk) drawn up by the relevant registrar in Belgium. This document must not be older than six months prior to the date of application.
. Proof of applicant's valid travel insurance policy, either individual or group, covering the cost of repatriation on medical grounds, urgent medical treatment and/ or urgent hospital treatment.
Note: As a rule, applicant must take an international insurance policy in India. If the host takes an insurance policy for the applicant, the same must be done in his/her own country of residence. To find out which insurance policies are accepted, applicant is advised to contact the Belgian embassy or consulate. The insurance must be valid throughout all of the Schengen countries and must cover the whole duration of the stay. The minimum cover is 30,000 euro.

. Documents to prove that the applicant has sufficient means of subsistence, covering both the duration of the stay and the return journey. Such as:
Applicant's own financial means (e.g. hotel reservation, cash, cheques and credit cards accepted in Belgium, an employment contract, bank statements, proof of enrolment on the trade register and/ or of professional activity) OR Guarantor's pledge of financial support.

Note:
1. Official documents issued in India or elsewhere must be legalised.
2. Documents issued in India in a language other than Dutch, English, French or German must be translated by a sworn translator.
3. The documents listed above are only the basic documents to be submitted. Additional documents may be requested by the embassy or consulate.
