Visa categories
In order to apply for a Schengen visa at the Visa Section of the Embassy or Consulate of Belgium in India, Belgium should be the main destination of the applicant.

A Schengen visa IS NOT a guarantee to access all Schengen territories, since the entry permission rests with the Immigration Authorities at the border.
The government of Belgium has broadly categorized issuance of visas into two categories.

1. Short stay visa - Stay not exceeding 90 days.
2. Long stay visa - Stay exceeding 90 days.

1. Categories of Short stay visa.
(a) Airport Transit.
(b) Passage or Transit.
(c) Tourist.
(d) Business.
(e) Sporting or Cultural event.
(f) Internship.
(g) Medical Treatment.

2. Categories of Long stay visa.
(a) Study related/ student.
(b) Family reunification to join a spouse.
(c) Family reunification to join a parent / grandparent.
(d) Family reunification to join descent.
(e) Marriage in Belgium.
(f) Cohabitation.
(g) Working in Belgium.
(h) Persons of independent means.
(i) Children under guardianship.
