Au pair

Who can apply?
Applicant wishing to settle in Belgium without taking up an economic activity may apply for this type of visa.
An au pair is a young person between 18 and 26 years old who lives temporarily in a host family. The au pair is provided with accommodation and meals in return for carrying out simple household tasks. The aim is for the au pair to improve his/her language skills and discover life in Belgium through involvement in the life of the host family. The Belgian host family must request an employer permit and a type B work permit for the au pair.

Conditions
For Applicant:
Applicant must be aged above 18 years and less than 26 years.
Applicant must undertake to accept no other job in Belgium during his/her stay as an au pair.
Applicant must hold a certificate giving him/her access to higher education in India, or prove that he/she has taken education till he/she attained the age of 17 years.
Applicant must have a basic knowledge of the host family's language or undertake to acquire this.
Applicant must take language classes to learn the language of the region where the host family live during his/her placement as an au pair.
Applicant must not have already been granted a work permit in Begium.

For host family:
Host must provide an individual room available to the applicant.
Host must take out health insurance policy for the applicant.
Host must allow the applicant at least one fun rest day per week.
Host must pay the applicant at least EUR 450 per month as pocket money.
Host must have at least one child whose age is under 13 years (if children under 6 years of age are present in the host's family, proof must also be given that day care has been provided for such children).

Host must produce a character reference for adult members of his/her family.
Host must undertake in writing to take out an insurance policy to cover the possible early repatriation of the applicant due to illness or an accident, and undertake to cover any costs incurred by the Indian government due to the applicant's repatriation.
Host must declare in writing that he/she agree to grant access into his/her house to any Belgium government employee responsible for monitoring.
Before the applicant arrives in Belgium the host family must submit a permit request for the occupation of the applicant to his/her Region's immigration service along with:
A medical certificate
Employment contract for the applicant
Note: 1£ the request is approved, a type B work permit will be issued to the host in the name of the applicant.

Documents required
Two copies of duly completed and signed visa application Forms.
Two passport size photos of the applicant
Valid passport of the applicant with validity of at least 12 months.
Police clearance Certificate of the applicant which should not be, older than 6 months from the date of application and covering the period of previous 5 years.
Type B works permit that the host family in Belgium must have requested for A medical certificate, (see Annexure BEL-III) obtained from the doctor designated by the Belgian embassy or consulate, dated and not older than 6 months from the date of application.

Note:
1. The applicant must personally submit a. request for a temporary residence permit to the Belgium embassy or consulate in his/her place of residence.
2. Official document issued in India or, elsewhere must, be legalised.
3. Documents issued in India in a language other than Dutch, English, French or German must be translated by a sworn translator.

4. The documents listed above are only the basic documents to submitted. Additional documents may be requested by the embassy or consulate;
5. The applicant must report in person to the municipal authority at the place of his/her residence in Belgium within 8 days of the applicant's arrival in Belgium.
