Who can apply?
One needs to have a Visitor Visa if he wishes to go to Australia for tourist purpose like holiday or sight seeing, or for any social activities like visiting a friend or relative or any other short term activity (including study courses up to 3 months).

The Visitor (Subclass 676) visa provides for a stay in Australia for a period of up to twelve months for tourism and other recreational activities including holiday, sightseeing, social or recreational reasons, to visit relatives or friends, or other short-term non work purposes including study.

Most visitor visa applications can be processed in 3 days. However it is advisable to lodge application 3 weeks before the intended date of travel. Although a personal interview is generally not required, whereas it may be required in some cases, the applicant will be advised when to attend the interview.

Conditions

. The applicant must be in good health.
. He must be of good character.
. He must not be subject to any restriction on travel to Australia,
. He is not allowed to work during his stay in Australia.
. He is not allowed to study for more than 3 months during his stay.

If he is interested to study for more than 3 months and his visa permits him to do so, then he must pass a chest x ray examination.

. The period of stay can not be extended under any circumstance.

. Applicants who are likely to be involved in health care or entering a hospital type environment in Australia (including nursing homes) as either a patient, visitor, employee, trainee or medical or non medical staff are required to undergo a chest x ray if 11 years or older, regardless of the length of time they intend to be in that hospital or health care area.

. Applicants who intend to study in a class room environment for a period greater than 4 weeks are required to undergo a chest x ray if 11 years or older.

. Visitors 70 years or over are required, as a minimum, to obtain a medical report of "fitness" from an authorised doctor regardless of the period of stay they are seeking or their country of health risk.

. Applicants whose length of stay will exceed three months and are over the age of 11 are required to undergo a chest x ray.

. Applicants whose length of stay will exceed three months and  are under the age of 11 are required to undergo a medical examination.

Documents Required

. Completed application form [48R]. See annexure Australia I.

. One recent passport size photo of each applicant (four photos if the applicant is required to undergo medical examination).
. Valid passport with two unused visa pages for each person included in the application.

. Bank draft for the non refundable visa application fee.

. A separate bank draft payable to "TI Services" for the non refundable TT Services fee, (See Application Procedure earlier).

. Original leave letter from the employer stating job designation, monthly salary and exact dates of leave or, if self employed, evidence of business.

. Details of proposed activities in Australia.

. Travel itinerary and flight details.

. Completed 'details of relatives' form. See annexure Australia I

. If applicant have a sponsor, a letter from the sponsor stating applicant's relationship and reason for sponsorship and evidence of the sponsors resident status in Australia.

. Evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of the visit either   from the applicant or his / her sponsor in Australia (eg. Bank statements showing transactions for the last three months).

. Evidence of funds / assets held by the applicant in India.

. A clear description and evidence of the applicant's occupation and complete contact details of his/her employer are to be included in the application form.

Note: Occupation titles such as 'business' and 'service' will not be acceptable.

. Evidence of income (e.g. pay slips and copy on IT returns for last 3 years) .

. Students must provide confirmation from their school or college of their exact vacation dates and / or reasons for taking time off during the academic semester.

. Children under 18 travelling without one or both parents must provide form 1229 duly completed by the non accompanying parent. See annexure Australia III. This form must be accompanied by evidence of the parent's identity (for example, the passport). In the case of children travelling or staying with non relatives, provide the full name, nationality and the date of birth of the person the child will be staying or travelling with.

. Applicants above 70 years of age must provide evidence of overseas medical insurance to cover full period of proposed travel and stay in Australia. For those requiring multiple entries, must provide travel itinerary.

. Previous passports, if any.
