Who can apply?
This visa is issued to persons who are either in transit to Australia or wanting to take a stopover en route to some other final destination or to pass through Australia to join a vessel as a crew member. In general a transit visa is required even if a traveller remains on the same aircraft in the same airport.

Conditions

. The applicant must not work in Australia.

. The applicant must not undertake formal studies or training in Australia.

Documents Required

All applicants should lodge the following:
. Valid passport with two unused visa pages.

. Completed form 876. See Annexure Australia VI.

. One recent passport-size photograph of each applicant (four photos if the applicant is over 70 years of age).

. Bank draft payable to "TTServices" for the non refundable TT Services fee.

. A clear description and evidence of the applicant's occupation and complete contact details of the employer should be included in the application form.

Note - Occupation titles such as 'business' and' service' are not acceptable.

. Children under 18 travelling without one or both parents must provide form 1229 duly completed by the non accompanying parent. (See Annexure Australia III). This form must be accompanied by evidence of the parent's identity (for example, the passport).

In the case of children travelling or staying with non-relatives, also provide the full name, nationality and the date of birth of the person the child will be staying or travelling with.

Applicants, other than crew joining a vessel, should also lodge

. Applicant's travel itinerary and confirmed onward booking to continue journey from Australia to a third country within 72 hours of arrival.

. Visa for entry to third country (if required).

. Unless the applicant is transiting Australia to return to his / her country of temporary residence, he / she should also lodge:

- Original leave letter from the employer stating job designation, monthly salary and exact dates of leave or, if the applicant is selfemployed, evidence of his/her business.

. Evidence of funds / assets held by the applicant in India, Nepal or Bhutan.

. Students must provide confirmation from their school or college of their exact vacation dates and/ or reasons for taking time off during the academic semester.

Applicants who are joining a vessel as crew should also lodge

. A seafarer's identify document.

. Details of the crew, the name of the vessel and the vessel's movements supplied by the vessel's shipping or handling agent.

. Letter from the shipping company in India and abroad.

. Travel itinerary and flight details.
