Things to Remember

Different family members applying at the same time can apply through a single form and can pay one charge.

Child born after making the application will be automatically included in the parent's application on information to Department of Immigration and Multicultural Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA) regarding the details of the newborn child. In some cases, a spouse or a dependent child can also be added to an application.

If need be, visa application can always be withdrawn by informing the DIMIA in writing but fees already paid will not be refunded.

Communication with DIMIA

Unless the DIMIA notifies another address, one should communicate in writing with the DIMIA office where the application was made.
While making communication with DIMIA one must include
. the name (as given in the application).
. the Date of Birth.
. the DIMIA client number, if allotted, else name of the office where the application was made should be mentioned.

Delay in Processing

Processing of application might be delayed if the application is pooled (applies to points tested classes of visas) or if the processing of the class of visa for which the application is made gets suspended. In such case DIMIA will send information about the application. Such information can also be sent to the applicant through the person authorized by him in writing.

Normally processing time varies between offices. The applicant will be notified by DIMIA whenever any decision is made on his application.

In case of visa refusal, the same will also be notified to the applicant explaining the reasons, so that the applicant can apply for merits review on the decision (if applicable). In case of acceptance, the same will also be notified by giving time to seek review on visa application.

For seeking merit review normally DIMIA takes 7 working days from the date of request provided such a request is made within Australia and 21 days if the request is made from out side Australia.

Abide Visa Conditions

When a visa is granted on certain conditions like restriction on work or study, one must abide by all such conditions to, avoid disappointment due to visa cancellation. For any amendment in visa condition one must contact DIMIA.

Travel during pendency of visa application

It is very important for every visa applicant to remain at the same place from where the application is made.

Certification / Attestation of Documents

Documents attested or certified in India are not acceptable. For Indian documents, the original plus one copy of the original should be submitted and the Visa Office will attest the copy and then original documents will be returned.

If original documents are sourced from Australia, a copy certified by a Justice of the Peace, Commissioner for Declarations or other persons authorized to witness statutory declarations is acceptable. Documents which are not correctly attested will not be accepted.

Medical Examination

One of the requirements for grant of a migrant visa to Australia is that applicant and his family included in the application meet Australian health standards for migrant entry to Australia. All applicants will therefore be required to undergo a medical examination. Examinations must be undertaken by an authorized panel doctor. Your reports are directly forwarded to the Australian High Commission.

Applicants must carry with them a valid passport for identification at the time of the examination and at the time of the x ray / blood testing. Please note that no other form of identification. is acceptable. Applicants aged 11 years and above are also required to undertake a chest x ray examination. Medical costs are to be borne by the applicant.

If an applicant wishes to expedite processing of his application, he may choose to undergo medical examination early in the application process. This may significantly reduce the application processing time.

On receipt of reports by the Australian High Commission, these are forwarded to the Health Assessment Service (HAS) in Sydney for consideration.

It may take up to 2 months from the completion of the medical examination before the Australian High Commission receives advice from HAS.

Medical forms are prepared and provided to the applicant only after the application has been lodged, not before. IT Services will provide all necessary medical forms upon lodgment. Please note that the Australian High Commission does not provide status updates on medical results.
