Who Can Apply?
This visa is issued to all those persons who want to undertake special supervised and structured training program which is workplace based rather than classroom based along with their spouse and dependent children.
This is a temporary visa for those people who want to improve their work skills through training with an Australian employer. The training must provide trainees with additional skills in their occupation, field of study, or area of expertise.
Conditions
. Training should be workplace based.
. Training must be compatible with employment history.
. The applicant can not work in Australia except in relation to his course of occupational training.
The visa, if granted, may be valid for undertaking a training program for up to a maximum of two years (subject to the length of the approved training program).
An additional period of one to two months may be added beyond the training end .date to allow the applicant and his family members to make arrangements to leave Australia or to apply for another visa.
Note - If the training cannot be completed in two years, applicant can apply for a second occupational trainee visa.
Applicant and his nominating organisation must meet eligibility requirements again.
To be eligible under this category a Trainee must meet one or more of the following requirements. He / she must:
. have been employed in his / her current occupation, studying or engaged in his/her field of expertise for at least last 12 months (unless exceptional circumstances justify that a visa should be granted despite a shorter period of experience) or
. have recently graduated from an Indian educational institution and is:
seeking occupational training in a closely related field or undertaking research in his / her field of study (other than full time research towards a further qualification).
. If in Australia on a student visa, Indian nationals may be eligible for an occupational trainee visa if they:
have successfully completed the principal course of study for which their student visa was granted and
want to undertake a period of supervised work experience for professional registration either in Australia or in their home country or
have successfully completed, at the diploma or higher level, the principal course of study, for which their student visa was granted and
want to undertake a supervised occupational training program in a closely related field for up to 12 months.
. If in India, Indian nationals may be eligible for an occupational trainee visa if they are:
undertaking a course of study at an overseas educational institution and
able to provide evidence from their Indian institution that the occupational training will be credited towards the grant of an award at the overseas institution.
Legislation and Policy Changes w.e.f. November 2005
. Australian organisations nominating an applicant for an
occupational trainee visa must declare that the trainee will be employed under Australian industrial relations law and relevant Australian Government, State or Territory awards and conditions for the industry.
. Family members may work up to 20 hours per week.
. The minimum age is 18 years unless exceptional circumstances exist. If a trainee is under 18 years of age, suitable welfare arrangements must be made.
.To be granted a visa, the applicant and any accompanying family members must show that they have adequate health insurance for the first 12 months of the training program in Australia.
. Four (4) recent passport size photos for each person included in the application.
. Valid passport with two unused visa pages for each persons included in the application.
. Proof with regard to employer's approved nomination (letter from the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs) unless the training is to be provided by the Common wealth.
. Evidence of the training that the applicant will undertake, including evidence that the training is workplace based.
. Documents relating to professional qualifications showing compatibility with training program.
. A clear description of occupation and contact details of current employer are to be included in the application form. Occupation titles such as "business" and" service" are not acceptable.
. Evidence of employment experience, including employment references, appointment and resignation letters, detailed duty statements and salary advice.
. Evidence of health insurance for the applicant and any accompanying family members for the entire duration of stay in Australia.
. Evidence of adequate means to support the accompanying family members and the applicant.
. Police Clearance Certificate from a Regional Passport Office for each applicant over the age of 18 whose expected period of stay is more than 12 months.
. Copies of Marriage Certificate if the spouse is included in the application and Birth Certificates for all children included in the application.
