Who can apply?
A Medical Treatment Visa is required if the applicant is visiting Australia in order to undergo medical treatment, either elective or emergency. The accompanying person should also apply under the same category as the patient.

This visa application is processed in 3 days. This processing period does not include the time taken by TIS and courier agency. However it is advisable to lodge application 3 weeks before the date of travel.

Conditions

. Arrangements to undergo medical treatment (including organ transplant or organ donation) or consultations in Australia, including arrangements for payment should have been made.

. The condition of patient should not be a threat to public health in Australia.

. The treatment or consultation sought should not cause any disadvantage to an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

. The applicant should have sufficient funds to support himself and his accomplice during the visit.

Documents Required

. Completed form [48ME] See Annexure Australia IV.

. Valid passport with two unused visa pages.

. Four recent passport size photographs of the applicant.

. For long stay medical visas a bank draft for the non refundable visa application fee. There is no application fee for short stay medical treatment visas.

. A separate bank draft payable to "TT Services" for the non refundable TT Services fee.

. Original letter from the doctor or hospital who will be treating the applicant in Australia stating:
that they agree to treat the applicant;
that satisfactory arrangements have been made for the payment of all costs associated with the treatment;

.the nature of the treatment;
the admission date (if applicable); and
the period applicant will be under medical care in Australia.

. If receiving treatment in a public hospital in Australia, attach written approval from the state or territory health authority under which the hospital is administered.

Evidence of sufficient funds for the treatment, living expenses of the applicant along with any accompanying relative for the likely duration of stay (eg bank statements showing transactions for the last three months).

. If the visit is for an organ transplant, attach evidence that arrangements have been made for all the travel and expenses of the donor.

. Statements from any person / s or organisations who will be providing the applicant with financial assistance, such as paying any of the costs, providing services free or maintaining the applicant while he / she is in Australia.

. Evidence of income (e.g. payslips and copy of IT returns for last 3 years)

. Children under 18 travelling without one or both parents must provide form 1229 duly completed by the non accompanying parent. See Annexure Australia III. This form must be accompanied by evidence of the parent's identity (for example, passport).
In the case of children travelling or staying with norelatives, provide the full name, nationality and the date of birth of the person the child will be staying or travelling with.

. Rest of documents remain same as applicable to tourist visa.
