Who Can Apply?

This type of visa is issued to skilled persons under the exchange arrangements with Australian residents for reciprocal working opportunities abroad along with their family members.

Important Information for this category

. This visa permits the holder to:

stay and work in Australia for a maximum of two (2) years or for the period of the exchange, whichever is the earlier
bring eligible family members to Australia
Following may be treated and included as a family in the applicant's application:
spouse
Spouse's dependent children
Dependent relatives living with the applicant

A dependent child is the applicant's or his / her spouse's natural or adopted child, or step child, who:

is not married, engaged to be married or in a de facto relationship has not turned 18
OR

if they have turned 18, is a full-time student, or is incapacitated for work.

. Other relatives may be included in, the application if they are wholly or substantially reliant on the applicant for financial support for their basic needs of food,
shelter and clothing and they have been reliant on the applicant for that support for a substantial period.

They must also be more reliant on the applicant for support than on any other person or source. A relative may also be considered dependent on the applicant if they are reliant on him / he for financial support because they have a mental or physical disability which stops them from earning a living to support themselves.

Other relatives dependent of the applicant or his / her spouse may include, for example, an aged, unmarried relative.
. For entry into Australia under a staff exchange the following must apply:

the position in which the applicant will be working in, must be skilled
an Australian must have an opportunity for experience in an overseas organisation
the exchange must benefit the Indian and the Australian resident.

. For entry into Australia under a government agreement between Australia and India, the following must apply: the department must be satisfied that the application meets the requirements of the agreement
Applicant must provide evidence that his / her your stay in Australia under the agreement has been agreed to by the relevant government authorities in Australia and the India.

If while in Australia if an applicant apply for a further visa to extend the stay he / she will need to complete a new application and attach appropriate evidence.

Common Documents Required

. A duly filled in application in form 147 (See Annexure Australia VII)

. Personal Particulars for character assessment Form 80(See Annexure AustraliaVIII).

. Police Records check consent to obtain personal information form 1101 (See Annexure Australia IX).

. Medical Checkup.

. Details of Relatives Form M 67 See Annexure Australia II.

. Documentary proof of educational qualifications.

. Documentary proof of current employment.

. If there is an agreement between government in Australia and the government of India, documentary evidence of that agreement is required.

. Invitation letter from the applicant's sponsor / organization in Australia.

. Documentary evidence of sufficient funds to support the applicant and any accompanying family member(s) for the duration of stay in Australia.

. Police clearance certificate if the stay in Australia is for longer than 12 months.

. Copies of a Marriage Certificate and Birth Certificates for spouse and all children if accompanying the applicant.

. Previous passports, if any.

Additional documents required by the principal applicant when applying under staff exchange

. Letters (on official company letterhead) from both the overseas organisation and the organisation in Australia.

The letter from the overseas organisation must provide:
. the job title (if any) and the duties of current employment
. details of the exchange

Example - brief history, purpose, name of the Australian organisation party to the exchange and the period of the exchange
. provide full contact details for the person in the organisation responsible for administering the exchange.

The letter from the Australian organisation must:

. confirm that arrangements are in place to employ the applicant and provide the job title, his / her proposed duties and proposed period of employment

. identify the Australian resident employee who will be travelling overseas in exchange

. confirm that the Australian resident's position will be available to that person on completion of the exchange

. provide full contact details for the person in the organisation responsible for administering the exchange.

Additional documents required by the principal applicant when applying under government agreement

A letter of support (on official letterhead) from the relevant Australian government agency identifying the name of the agreement and confirming that the applicant have been selected under the terms of the agreement.
