Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for this category of visa, the Applicant should be a child of an Australian citizen who was born outside Australia and now wants to go to Australia. Applicant becomes an Australian citizen on the date the applicant is registered as an Australian citizen by the Visa Office.
Important information for this category
. A child born outside Australia to an Australian citizen parent and the non-Australian citizen parent is an applicant for migration (for example as a spouse) and the application has not yet been finalised, there are two options for the child:
the child can apply for Australian citizenship by descent; or
the child may be included in the non Australian citizen parent's application for migration and undergo appropriate migration processing, including for example health checks.
. Children adopted by an Australian citizen or permanent resident are not eligible to apply for registration of Australian citizenship by descent.
