What is Apprenticeship Training?
Apprenticeship Training is on-the-job training in industry under the provisions of the Apprentices Act, 1961. It comprises Basic Training, Practical Training and Theoretical classes as per prescribed syllabus.

Who can undergo Apprenticeship Training?
A person, who has completed 14 years of age, is physically fit and possesses minimum educational qualification prescribed for a trade can undergo Apprenticeship Training. Those passing from Industrial Training Institutes in relevant trades get rebate in period of Apprenticeship Training.

What are the trades?
There are 153 designated trades covered under the Act. The candidates can select a trade according to his/her choice based on his/her qualification, which varies from 8th pass to B.5c. pass.

Where one can undergo Apprenticeship Training and how to apply?
One can undergo Apprenticeship Training in establishments in the Central/State Public Sector or Private Sector, where seats have been located. In respect of the establishments in the Central Public Sector, seats are located by the Regional Directorates of Apprenticeship Training (RADTs) whose addresses are given below in Table-I. Information Brochure containing information regarding trades covered, qualifications, names and addresses of establishments etc., may be obtained from these (RDATs) on payment of Rs. 10/- by cash or by post by sending a crossed postal order.

The responsibilities for selection of apprentices rests with the respective establishments. However, the RDA Ts may sponsor names of those desirous of joining Apprenticeship Training in the Central Sector establishments. For this purpose, the candidates may get themselves registered with the RDA Ts by applying in the prescribed application form available with the Brochure. In respect of establishments in the State Public Sector and Private Sector, seats are located by the respective State Apprenticeship Advisers. This is revised from time to time.

What is the benefit?
The apprentices acquire skills, which helpthem in getting wage or self employment.

Certification after completion of training
At the end of training the apprentices appear at an All India Trade Test conducted by the National Council for Vocational Training. Successful apprentices are awarded National Apprenticeship Certificate which recognized qualification for employment.

Reservation for SC/ST, PH, Women etc.
Certain percentage of located seats are reserved for the candidates belonging to SC, ST, PH and Women etc.
