The USEFI Reference Library
The USEFI Reference Library provides its members with a wide variety of services about higher education in U.S.A. The library is equipped to provide the latest and most accurate information about American universities as well as in-depth information about costs, financial aid, subject fields, faculties etc. The library has a collection of guide books, subject specialized directories and catalogs of universities in the United States useful to students who plan to apply to U.S. universities for higher education.

You can avail of the services provided by the USEFI Reference Library by becoming its member. Admission to the library is restricted to its members. A membership card is issued upon receipt of a completed application form and upon payment of the requisite fee.

Membership applicants must bring a valid identification (school, college or employment identification, passport or driver's license) and a passport photograph. The card is not transferable. Admission to the library is only on the basis of the membership card.

General, four year and graduate/professional programs
1. Accredited Institutions of Post-secondary Education: American Council on Education. Lists all accredited post secondary institutions, regional and specialized accreditation bodies recognized by the Council on Post secondary Accreditation.

2. The College Handbook: The College Handbook Foreign Student Supplement: Index of Majors and Graduate Degrees: The College Board. The Foreign Student Supplement provides such information as costs, undergraduate and graduate admissions requirements, availability of financial aid, and special services. The College Handbook includes institutional profiles for 3,200 two-and four year colleges as well as indexes by such factors as size and location, religious affiliation, learning disabled services provided, open admissions, and more. The Index of Majors and Graduate Degrees lists nearly 600 fields of study at 2,900 accredited institutions as well as special programs such as cooperative education, internships, and study abroad.

3. The College Handbook for Transfer Students: The College Board. This guide addresses the needs of every type of transfer student from community and four-year college students to returning adult  and high school students planning to begin college study at a two-year institution.

4. A Comparative Guide to American College: Harper Perennial. Lists about 1,500 colleges. Includes index of majors at four-year undergraduate instituions with number of graduates in each field, selectivity index, and information on institutional budget sources.

5. Directory of Graduate Programs, 4 vols: Educational Testing Service. Lists Programs and specialties; institutional profiles; admissions, financial aid; tests required; highest degree offered in t bl1lar form along with housing office addresses. Easy to refer to valuable information.

6. Higher Education Directory: Higher Education Publications, Inc. Contains lists of institutions of higher education arranged alphabetically within state. Entries include name and address, telephone number of institution, as well as names of some of the institution's key officials size of institution, cost and accreditation status.

7. Lovejoy's College Guide: Prentice Hall. Two and four year colleges, with index of over 500 majors, the college's own assessment of their selectivity, sports index with athletic scholarship information.

8. Cooperative Education UG Program Directory: National Commission for Cooperative Education. Provides an up-to-date listing of approximately 800 cooperative education programs found in the United States and its territories. In addition, a sampling of co-operative employing organizations have provided information to students regarding the opportunities found  within their organization.

9. Peterson's Annual Guide to Undergraduate Study, 2 vols: Peterson's Guides

i. Peterson's Guide to Four-Year Colleges:
Detailed profiles submitted by 1,950 accredited institutions; indexes by major, cost, entrance difficulty, and geographic area.

ii. Peterson's Guide to Two-Year Colleges:
Profiles 1,450 two-year colleges, including index of majors and data on freshman and transfer admissions, graduation requirements, costs, financial aid, campus life, part-time programs, computer facilities, graduation and transfer statistics, and athletic and special programs.

10. Peterson's Colleges with Programs for Learning-Disabled Students: Peterson's Guides. Profiles students in two sections so that counselors, parents and students can distinguish between two and four-year colleges with full-fledged learning-disabled programs and those that offer some services. The first section contains extensive profiles of colleges with fully developed programs while the second lists colleges with support services not designed as comprehensive programs.

11. Peterson's Annual Guides to Graduate Study, Books 1 through 6: Peterson's Guides. Each includes a directory of institutions and institution­-submitted profiles for numerous fields of graduate study. The overview  volume includes directories of graduate and professional programs by field, institutions and their offerings, and combined degree programs as well as profiles of institutions. An excellent guide for those seeking graduate education in the U.S. or Canada. A one page profile of selected universities is also given.

12. Peterson's Guide to College Admissions: Peterson's Guides. Provides practical advice on how students can increase their chances of getting into the school of their choice.

13. Peterson's Guide to Independent Secondary Schools: Peterson's Guides. Lists more than 1,300 college-preparatory schools in the U.S. and abroad. Contains descriptions of each school's academic program facilities, and student life, college placement record and much more.

II. Field of Study Guides
This section of the bibliography lists books concerned with specific fields of study. The books are listed alphabetically under the following fields:

Art
American Art Directory: R.R Bowker.
Contains names, addresses, and contact information for 6,800 museums, art libraries, and art organizations as well as 1,700 listings for art schools.

Business & Management Fields
Guide to Doctoral Programs in Business and Management: American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business. Guidelines for choosing a school as well as information on academic concentrations and requirements, admissions, expenses, and more for over 100 institutions.

Guide to Graduate Study in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Public Administration, and Doctoral Programs in Business Administration in the United States and Canada: The Economics Institute. About 280 profiles of institutions with programs in above fields; includes descriptions of doctoral business administration programs.

The Official Guide to M.B.A. Programs: Graduate Management Admission Council. Profiles approximately 550. programs, including admissions criteria, financial aid opportunities, cost, and general descriptions. Discusses educational options as well as career choices.

Indicates whether each institution offers a major or concentration in the following areas: general management, accounting, arts administration, behavioral sciences, economics, finance, health services, international business, management, public policy or administration, quantitative analysis, real estate or insurance, telecommunications, and transportation.

Chemistry
Directory of Graduate Research: American Chemical Society. Lists about 750 graduate chemistry programs in the U.S.; includes listings of faculty and their research. Fields listed are Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Clinical Chemistry and Polymer Science.

Engineering
Directory of Engineering and Engineering Technology Undergraduate Programs: American Society for Engineering Education. Lists over 300 U.S. colleges with engineering and engineering technology programs; entries include admissions requirements, freshman class. profiles, enrollment statistics, costs, degrees offered, and special student service.

Directory of Engineering Graduate Study of Research: American Society for Engineering Education. A comprehensive list of 220 institutions offering graduate and research programs in all disciplines of engineering. Includes information on degree requirements, faculty and enrollment statistics, institution contacts and funding opportunities.

Geosciences
Directory of Geoscience Departments, North America: American Geological Institute. Lists 382 departments at institutions granting degrees in geology, geophysics, oceanography. Gives faculty, courses, degree requirements and aid available. Index of 2,900 faculty members with subject specialty of each.

Health and allied fields
Allied Health Education Directory: American Medical Association. Occupational information and listings of about 2,800 accredited programs for allied health fields.

Clinical Pharmacology: A Guide to Training Programs: Peterson's Guides. This guide will direct young men and women who are interested in studying therapeutic drugs in humans to the programs at U.S. and Canadian Medical Schools.

Graduate Medical Education Directory: American Medical Association. Discusses accreditation process for specialized programs and lists accredited residency programs in the recognized specialty and subspecialty areas.

World Directory of Medical Schools: World Health Organization Undergraduate medical educational institutions in about 130 countries and territories.

Psychology
Graduate Study in Psychology and Associated Fields: American Psychological Association. Profile over 600 programs in the United States and Canada, including professional accreditation status, number of faculty, programs and degrees offered, application, student information, degree and admission requirements, tuition, housing and day-care, financial aid, considerations for minorities and women, teaching opportunities, and additional comments. Has index by area of study.


III. Training and Short-Term Study
Bricker's International Directory: University-Based Executive Programs, 2 vols.: Peterson's Guides. An annual guide to over 250 general­-management programs offered by universities and selected academic institutions. The directory provides information on the institutions, location of the programs, dates and duration, tuition and fees, curriculum, faculty, participant profile, and living accommodation.

Peterson's Guide to Certificate Programs at American Colleges and Universities: Peterson's Guides. This guide profiles more than 1,500 certificate programs at American Colleges and universities. These are structured nondegree programs that span all academic disciplines, include some evaluation, such as exams and grades, and require the sponsoring institution to keep a permanent record or transcript.

Specialized Study Options, 2 vols: Institute of International Education. Describes over 800 short-term study opportunities accessible to foreign nationals at U.S. colleges, universities, and trade and technical schools. Courses range from two weeks to one year.

IV. Career Opportunities
Occupational Outlook Handbook: U.S Department of Labor. Biennial publication prepared by U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Provides detailed information on a wide variety of occupations, including definition of field, entry paths and where appropriate, licensing procedures. Does not offer information on licensing requirement for foreigners.

V. Financial Aid and Costs
The College Handbook Foreign Student Supplement: The College Board. Includes information on financial planning and lists costs at over 2,000 graduate and undergraduate institutions: academic year, tuition and living expenses as well as summer session tuition. Institutional entries indicate whether or not financial aid is given to foreign students, how many applied for aid, the percentage given aid, and the total amount of aid awarded to foreign students in the past year.

Graduate Assistantship Directory in the Computer Sciences: Association for Computing Machinery. The Directory contains information about seeking graduate programs in computer science and related areas, including degrees offered and specialties, information about the institutions, including size, numbers of computer science faculty and students, and computer equipment available, a description of the type and quantity of financial aid available to qualified students at each institution, and the name and address of a contact person at each institution.

Peterson's Grants for Graduate and Postdoctoral Study: Peterson's Guides. A guide to grants available from foundations, companies, professional associations, government agencies, and other organizations offering grants to graduate students and to the application process. Lists almost 650 research, teaching, and writing programs at the post doctoral level, with award descriptions, eligibility requirements, application I procedures and deadlines, stipend amount and additional benefits, and contact information:
