Next significant step in the admission process is taking the entrance tests. First you are required to register yourself with the testing authorities. You should do this well in time. These tests must be taken a year in advance of your proposed date of enrolling in the US institutions.

These tests include (0 Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), SAT I, SAT II or American Test (ACT), TWE (Test of Written English). Colleges usually either send you their application form and other details in about 40-45 days or a preliminary form before sending the application form. Most of the educational institutions now allow the students to download application form from their websites or apply online.

Some of them accept common application form (www.commonap.org). You have to pay non-refundable application fee ranging from twenty to fifty dollars. Be prepared to send about two letters of recommendations from your principal or a teacher. You have also to send an essay about yourself or a statement of purpose (of around 500 words), transcripts, certificate of finance and standardized exam score reports. In case the student is in need of financial aid or scholarship, the application may be send at this stage itself.

On receiving an offer you may be asked to send deposit to the college and also specify date by which you will be joining them. On receipt of your acceptance the college will send YQU Form 1-20 i.e. certificate of eligibility for non-immigrant which is given by the college offering you admission. Then you have to apply for visa to the Consular Office at the American Embassy or a Consulate. You may attend Pre-Departure Orientations conducted by USEFI offices during May and July and December, according to your schedule. It is in the students' interest to follow travel and preparation instructions sent by the institution. They should also ensure that they arrive at the institution in time for the orientation and registration sessions organized for new students.
