Scholarships/Fellowships for Indian nationals to pursue higher studies in Japan
Economic help to students comes in by way of scholarships, tuition fee subsidies or material assistance. Most scholarships cover the most of education and living expenses. But, not all expenses are covered and students should check the cost of studying in Japan carefully and go about planning their stay, not fully relying on the scholarship.

Following Scholarships are offered for InternationalStudents:
1. Japanese Government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology or Monbukagakusho) Scholarships: These scholarships are offered for international students in Japan at the Govt’s expense. Seven types of such scholarships are available to the following categories of students.
(a) Research students (graduate school student and research student)
(b) Teacher training students
(c)Undergraduate university students

(d) Japanese studies student
(5) College of technology students
(6) Special training college students
(7) Young Leaders’ Program (YLP) students

2. Scholarships by JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization): JASSO provides (a) Short  term Student Exchange Promotion Program Scholarship to those students who are accepted by Universities in Japan under student exchange agreements with the Universities in their home country. (b) Honors Scholarships for privately financed international students and pre-college students enrolled in Japanese language institutes. Scholarships are offered for pursuing Undergraduate, Master’s and Doctoral level courses in Japanese Universities and Honor’s scholarship is provided to students enrolled in Japanese language institutes.

3. Scholarships by Private foundations: offered by private companies or organizations, are offered to students studying in a specific district and generally limited to special subjects related to the organization offering it. It may also be offered to students of specific countries with which the organization has student exchange agreements.

4. Scholarships by local governments and International associations: offered by Govt. of a District (local government) to students who are enrolled in institutions in their district.

Scholarships are also offered to students studying overseas. Local governments, international associations and private foundations offer such scholarships
