German: The language of instruction
The language of instruction at German institutions of higher education is German. A good knowledge of German is therefore imperative for anyone studying in Germany. You will not always be able to find a Goethe-Institute or a university German Department with German courses nearby. Before you can be admitted to study at a German institution of higher education you must provide proof of a good knowledge of German (see below, Assessment Test, PNDS [German Proficiency Test]).

India: Before taking the assessment test, applicants must provide proof that they have a secondary school leaving certificate awarded after 12 years of consecutive and advancing classes with proof of a total average mark of at least 50% of the achievable maximum mark
. Applicants who provide proof of successful participation in the entrance examination for the Indian Institutes of Technology will be exempted from the assessment test.
