	Germany General Information The Federal Republic of Germany is situated in the centre of Europe. On 3rd October, 1990, the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was founded in the east of Germany after the end of the Second World War, joined the federation. The Federal Republic of Germany is a democratic, federal country, comprising 16 federal states or Lander.
Germany's climate is cool-to moderate with precipitations throughout the year. The average temperature in the coldest month (January) is between 1.5°C and -6°C with the mean temperature for the warmest month (July) ranging between 17°C and 20°C.
