4. Special Fellowship Programmes for Indian University Teachers and Junior Scholars of German
Essential Prerequisites: Nominees must supply recent-dated correspondence - not older than six months - with the German counterparts in question agreeing to the proposed plan of research and the suggested time schedule.

4.1 Study Visit Grants for Teachers of German
For teachers of German Language and Literature/German Studies at Indian universities, institutes deemed to be universities, and Indian Institutes of Technology, DAAD offers the opportunity to visit Germany for a period of three months, to collect material for further research and teaching.

The offer is made through the University Grants Commission (UGC) who will announce this programme and set its own criteria for pre­selection. In exceptional cases, direct application to DAAD New Delhi is possible. You are advised to consult the office before applying.

Applications must be addressed to UGC, at the dead lines given in their announcement. Direct applications have to reach the office of DAAD New Delhi by October 15.

Specific Eligibility Requirements
Degree/Language Proficiency:
Nominees should have at least a Master's Degree and a distinctly above average current proficiency in German.

Prior Experience/Employment: Nominees must have a teaching experience of at least two years and be permanently employed at an Indian institution of higher education, at the time of application.

4.2 Grants for Junior Scholars of German
Primarily through UGC, DAAD offers 3- to 6-month grants to junior Indian scholars of German language, literature, culture, and society enrolled at Indian universities, to enable them to collect material for their M.Phil. or Ph.D. theses under the guidance of professors at universities in Germany, or to enroll there for short refresher and/or specialisation , courses. In exceptional cases, direct applications to DAAD New Delhi are possible. You are advised to consult the office before applying.

Applications must be submitted to the UGC after their announcement of this programme. Direct applications must reach DAAD New Delhi by October 15.

Eligibility Requirements
Degree/Status: Applicants should be M.Phil. or Ph.D. Students currently enrolled at Indian universities.

Sponsorship: Applications should be accompanied by are commendation of the Indian university/thesis advisor.
