8. Grants for Study and Information Visits by Groups of Young Indian and German Scholars

DAAD offers grants for study and information visits to Germany by groups of Indian students form all disciplines and, vice-versa, to groups of German students to India, under the direction of an accompanying faculty member. The visits are intended to familiarise the participants with the latest developments in their respective fields and/or with the current political, economic and cultural affairs in the host country.

Visits are possible for groups of between 10 and 30 qualified participants, for the duration of a week to a maximum of 2 I days. For Indian participants, knowledge of German is desirable but not essential.

For Indian groups, the international airfare and transportation within Germany will have to be borne by the Indian side. DAAD arranges the programme and supplies an English speaking guide. Application forms are obtainable form DAAD New Delhi. Complete applications take approximately 4 months to process.

German groups may apply through DAAD Head quarters in Bonn only.

II Fellowships in Academic Networking and Indo-German Projects
1. Institutional and Departmental Links
In the interest of strengthening academic cooperation between institutions of higher education in developing countries and in Germany, DAAD supports institutional and/or departmental links between universities and Fachhochschulen in India and their German counterparts. These links are intended to enhance academic exchanges on all levels, help in developing joint curricula in areas of high priority to both partners and in establishing technology transfer centres in fields with particular relevance to global development.

Interested Indian institutions of higher education should inquire at the DAAD New Delhi Office for information on the parameters of this new programme. Direct applications for participation in this programme are not possible. The Indian institutions' German partner will apply to DAAD Bonn for support under this programme.

2. Indo-German Project-based Persons' Exchange Programme (PPP)
With effect from March 1998, DAAD and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has been offering exchange opportunities for Indian and German senior and junior scientists and faculty who are engaged in , or plan, research within the framework of Indo-German projects in Science and Technology. The support offered is covered international travel and local hospitality only.

For more information and proformas for application, eligible Indian scientists and faculty should contact the International Division of the DST. German scientists must apply through DAAD Bonn.

Note: Direct applications by Indian scientists to DAAD New Delhi are not possible.

III. DAAD Supported Study Opportunities in Germany Special Undergraduate and Postgraduate Courses for German and International Students ("Auslandsorientierte Studiengaenge")

Each academic year a number of German universities are offering several undergraduate and postgraduate courses ("Master Plus"), primarily in the fields of Technology and Management, jointly, to German and International students. They are taught either consecutively in English and German, or simultaneously in German and another foreign language (in principle: English). No prior Knowledge of German is required. They lead to internationally recognised Bachelors' of Masters' degrees.

DAAD has selected a number of these courses for special institutional support, primarily intended to assist international students in adapting' to the German higher education system and studying techniques, and in . learning German while enrolled.
