Master of Business Administration (MBA)

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is a post graduate qualification at Masters level in business and management. It is primarily intended for potential high-fliers with managerial experience or students aspiring for a career in management.
Duration of the course
Full time MBA courses in the UK last one year i.e. 12 months consisting of 9 months of taught course and 3 months of dissertation or project work. Part time and distance learning courses vary in length.

Subject and specialisations in MBA
MBA is a general management qualification and most courses have compulsory core subjects which all students have to study. Many also offer optional courses which allow students to choose areas of specialisation. The following subjects are common to most MBA courses although there are some variations between courses:
Business law
Economics
Financial management & accountancy
International business
Management information systems
Marketing

Method of study
Most full time MBA courses are very intensive and students should be prepared for a heavy work load. Most courses have participative learning methods in addition to traditional lectures, group presentations, practical projects and consultancy work in companies.
Operations management
Organisational behaviour
Project management
Quantitative techniques Strategic management
Some institutions offer specialist MBA for example in Finance, Marketing, Hospital management etc.
