Immigration requirements
Student visas are required for Indian nationals who wish to study in the United Kingdom and are obtainable from the offices of the British High Commission and British Deputy High Commission.
You need to prove to the institution as well as the Visa Officer that you have enough financial resources to cover the cost. You can prove this by a sponsorship letter, self-support/parents, loans, scholarships.
Under the immigration rules a person may be admitted to the United Kingdom as a student if:
i) he/she produces evidence that he/she has been accepted for a full
time course of study at a university/a college and devotes at least 15 hours per week to organised day time study. Correspondence or evening courses do not meet these requirements.
ii) he/she can meet the cost of the course, and his/her own maintenance and accommodation and those of his/her dependents, without working and without recourse to public funds. It is acceptable for support and accommodation and the cost of the study to be provided by relatives and friends in the UK.
iii) he/she must also be able, and intend, to follow the course and to leave the UK on completion of his/her studies.
Student Visa
The first step to apply for a UK student visa is to visit the Visa Facilitation Service website: www.vfs.uk.co.in or its office and filling in the application form.
Ensure that your cover letter for the visa application includes the following information: your family assets and how you can pay for your education, career goals and why you have selected a particular institution. If your cover letter is clear and concise, most likely you will not be called for an interview. You should submit only photocopies of your documents while dropping your application at the VFS office. You must, however, carry your original documents when you visit the VFS office.
