Education system in the LK have evolved over hundred of years, and are subject to rigrous quality standards Education in the UK is compulsary for every one between the ages of five and sixteen, and is provided by two kinds of schools: State funded and independent schools. Every year more than 100,000 international students join British colleges and universities.

Among the popular courses some are Accountancy, Business Studies, Management Studies. Art & Design, Architecture, Tourism, Hotel Management, Engineering, Medicine, etc. Independent thinking and student-centred learning are the hallmarks of British degree courses. British higher education offers shorter and more intensive courses than are available in many other countries.

Quality is largely controlled by a well established system of external examiners, independent academic advisers and professional inspecting bodies. Closely supervised study keeps failure and drop out rates low. The Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme enables students to count previous studies towards their programme in Britain and to transfer credit for their study in Britain.

Overseas students in Britain enjoy a high level of academic care through discussion, sometimes on a one-to-one basis, at tutorials and seminars, which are more central to this level of education than lectures. Support schemes meet the special needs of overseas students meeting a new language, culture and learning environment. There are personal counselling and advisory services which help with practical problems.

All students are entitled to free National Union of Students membership which enable them to avail upto 50% off on anything from books, stationary and food to clothes, travel and entertainment.
