Getting a Student Visa - For obtaining an Australian Student Visa, the following steps are necessary for the aspirants:

(a) The first requirement before applying for a student visa, is to get an Offer of Acceptance from an educational institution of Australia, which must be approved by the Australian Education Authorities and the course you have applied for, needs to be a registered one.

(b) Secondly, it is obligatory to show that you have the requisite financial support to meet your expenses including tuition fees, accommodation etc. for pursuing your studies. For the purpose of Australian Government's student visa requirements, students are required to show that they have at least Australian Dollar 12,000 (around Rs.3,00,000) to cover living costs for each year of their study.

If you do not have adequate funds, you can look for an eligible sponsor. Then you have to show that these funds are in your possession for a minimum of six months. Moreover, you may also opt for taking loans from either a governmental or a commercial organisation.

(c) As laid down by your visa authority and the educational institution in Australia, a minimum score between 5.0 to 6.0 in International English Language Testing System is essential for all students aspiring to pursue studies in Australia.

However, the rule does not apply to school students. These tests are conducted by the British Council and IDP Education Australia in India. Details about the test can be had from www.ieltsindia.com or www.immi.gov.au.

(d) If you have successfully completed the above mentioned stages, you can go for filling in the visa application form. The application forms are available with the Visa office. However, you can also obtain the electronic version of the form from the website www.immi.gov.au

After carefully filling up all the relevant columns in the form, submit the same along with the original and photostat copies of required documents. It takes some 15-20 days to receive either Pre Visa Assessment (PVA) letter or a conditional PVA from the visa authorities.

They would also send you medical forms with the PVA. In case you do not meet any of the necessary conditions, a letter of refusal would be sent to you. The PV A should be lodged no sooner than 2 weeks and not later than 8 weeks before the date of commencement of course.

(e) The first step, on your part, on receiving a PVA or a conditional PVA, should be to get your health checked up by an approved physician and to complete all other formalities as may be required by the visa office without wasting time.

(f) The last hurdle is obtaining your Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) in the intended course of study. You would be issued the COE by the educational institution you intend joining, soon after receiving the tuition fees for the first semester from your end. Hence, have to be prompt to deposit the fees and get your COE at the earliest.

(g) On receiving your COE, you can visit your visa office with both COE and valid passport. In case you have taken a loan, you have to present proof of disbursement of funds.

After submission of all these documents, viz., Medical, Passport, conditional requirements of PVA etc., you are definitely at the receiving end to be granted a student visa.
