For higher education entry, you require an overall score of six or better on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). For TAFE and special studies entry an overall score of between 5 and 6 is required, depending on the programme demands of the courses.

For secondary entry an overall IEL TS score of between 5 to 6 is recommended depending on the requirements of the school and the availability of English language support. A score of 550 or better on the American Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is also accepted. Note: IEL TS is recognised widely as a prerequisite English language test for all students/professionals / prospective immigrants in order to qualify for their visas or admission in colleges/ universities in many countries, compulsory for Australia.


It tests a candidate's English language writing, speaking, listening and reading capabilities. There are two versions of the test - Academic and General Training. It is owned and managed by the British Council, IDP Education Australia: IEL TS Australia and Cambridge ESOL.
