Research Programs:
(1) Science Faculty - Ph.D Programs: Astronomy & Astrophysics, Biochemistry, Ecological Sciences, High Energy Physics, Inorganic Physical Chemistry, Management Studies, Material Research, Mathematics, Microbiology & Cell Biology, Molecular Biophysics, Molecular Reproduction, Development and Genetics, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Solid State & Structural Chemistry

(2) Engineering Faculty - Ph.D & M.Sc. (Engg): Aerospace Engineering, Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Automation, Electrical Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Design & Technology, High Voltage Engineering, Instrumentation, Management Studies, Materials Research, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Supercomputer Education & Research

Eligibility:
Minimum second class in the qualifying examination.

For Science Faculty: (a) For. Ph.D.: Master's degree in Science in an appropriate field/ Agriculture; or MBBS; or M.Pharm; or M.V.Sc.;or Master's degree            in English/ German Language/Linguistics.

For Engineering Faculty:
(b) M.Sc. (Engg.): Master's degree in Science in an appropriate field;
or MBA or equivalent degree; or Master's degree in Economics, Social Work, Psychology, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science/ Application

(c) Ph.D: (1) Master's degree in Engineering/Technology in an appropriate field. (2) Candidates with qualifications as in (b) above are also eligible for direct admission to Ph.D
Note: Pass in one of the following Entrance Tests is mandatory for candidates eligible under (a), (b), and (c2), and desirable for candidates eligible under (c1): CSIR-UGC NET for JRF; or UGC-NET for JRF; or Gate; or IISc Entrance Test; or NBHM Fellowship (for Mathematics department only)

2. Course Programs
(1) M.E.:
Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science &
Engineering, Electrical, High Voltage, Internet Science & Engineering, Mechanical, Metallurgy, Microelectronics, Signal Processing, Systems Science & Automation, and Telecommunication.
Eligibility:
Minimum second class in Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field of Engineering / Technology; or Bachelor's degree in Science (with Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry as subjects of study). Selection is strictly based on GATE

(2) M.TECH.: Instrumentations, Electronics Design and Technology
and Computational Science

Eligibility: Second class or equivalent grade in the qualifying examination (relaxed to pass class for SC/ST candidates).

(i) For Instrumentation: Master's degree in instrumentation. Selection is based on GATE score only

(ii) For Electronics Design and Technology: Master's degree in Physics (with Electronics as special subject) and 2 years experience in Electronics hardware. Selection is based on an Aptitude test and interview conducted after screening based on the GATE scores

(iii) For Computational Science: Master's degree in Science (in all cases strong mathematical and programming background is required). Selection is based on an Aptitude test and interview are conducted after screening based on the GATE scores

(3) M.DES.: Product Design & Engineering. Eligibility: Minimum second class in Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology / Design/ Architecture; or Post B.Sc AMIE or equivalent degree in Engineering including Architecture; and valid GA TF / CEED score. A design aptitude test and interview is conducted after screening based on GATE / CEED scores.

EXTERNAL REGISTRATION PROGRAM (ERP) FOR RESEARCH
Eligibility: Qualifications are the same for regular candidates. 2-year experience in the current employment. Age: Not more than 45 years as on the specified date. Selection is based on performance in interview to be conducted at the Institute

Reservation: As per Government of India regulations

Scholarships: All regular students who join the Institute (except Sponsored and ERP categories) are eligible for Scholarship/Fellowship form IISc / CSIR / UGC / NBHM / as the case may be. Scholarships from GE / INFOSYS / IBM / HP / TATE are also available
