CSIR has been contributing significantly towards producing an ‘inquiring society’. In its mandate, it has various activities which have potential for generating a strong knowledge base. These numerous schemes cover a wide range of scientists (aging from 16 years to 65 years

(i) Visiting Associateship Scheme. Eligibility:
Middle level scientists from universities/R & D units in industries
Duration: 3 years
Value: Ta & DA for two visits to CSIR lab.  Maximum of 60 Days in a year
Selection Procedure:
Evaluation by Directors
Last Date:
Twice a year

(ii) Research Scheme. Eligibility:
All levels of scientists employed in universities, research institutions and R & D units.  
Duration:
3years. Value: Normally, up to Rs. 12 lakhs for 3 years.
Selection Procedure:
Evaluation by referees and area - wise research committees; Committees meet twice a year.
Last date:
Any time during the year

(iii) Sponsored Research Scheme. Eligibility:
All levels of scientists employed in universities,             
research institutions and R & D units.
Duration:
3 years.
Value:
Varies, up to Rs.25 lakhs for 3 years
Selection Procedure:
Evaluation by referees and area-wise research committees; Committees meet twice a year.
Last date: Any time during the year

(iv) Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (SSB).
Eligibility:
Citizen of India engaged in research in S&T.
Age limit:
45 years.
Value:
Citation, plaque andRs. 2,00,000 as prize money Book assistance of Rs. 10,000 p.a
Selection Procedure:
Evaluation & recommendations of the Advisory Committee.
Last date: December/January

(v) Young Scientist Award (YSA).
Eligibility:
Young Scientist of CSIR system.
Age limit:
35 years
Value:
Citation, Plaque and Rs. 50,000 as prize money and research project of about Rs. 10 lakhs for 5 years
Selection Procedure:
Evaluation & recommendations of the Advisory Committee. Last date: January/February

(vi) Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee (SPM) Fellowship. Eligibility: M.Sc (55%) 50% for SC/ST
Age limit: 28 years. Duration: 1+ 4 years Value: Rs. 10,000/15,000 pm*with contingency grant of Rs. 50,000 annually. Selection Procedure: Top 20% of NET qualified  candidate of the preceding year.
Last date: July


*In addition, house rent allowance (HRA) according to the rules of the organization where placed, is admissible
