Transplastomics in Potato
Transplastomic potato plants produced using green fluorescent protein (GFP) marker gene were produced in the year 1999. The accumulation of foreign protein was found to be 100-fold lower in non-photosynthetic microtubers than in green leaves. These transplastomic potato plants were also sterile, although for a crop like potato that is propagated vegetatively by tubers, it may not be so important.
