Regulations governing commercialization
Regulations governing commercialization of transgenic crops is often subject to independent approvals from several agencies, depending upon the nature of the crop, the trait improved through genetic engineering and the ultimate use of the product (food/feed, etc). For instance, in USA, any crop containing a gene for pesticide also requires approval from the Environment Protection Agency (EPA). Similarly, if the crop is used for food/feed, it requires an additional clearance from Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
