Resistance Against Abiotic Stresses
Serious crop losses are also caused due to a variety of abiotic stresses, including drought, cold (frost), salinity, metal toxicity, etc. Transgenic plants resistant to these stresses have been produced, utilizing transgenes that alter the desired biosynthetic pathways, although even in the year 2002, these transgenic plants were only in a preliminary stage of development and perhaps will not be commercialized before 2005.
