Radiology/X-Ray Technology
Medical Imaging Technologists operate x-ray and other imaging equipment to produce radiographs (x-ray films) and other images which are used in the diagnosis and subsequent management of disease or injury. They may perform the following tasks:
#903; receive and interpret requests from medical practitioners for x-ray examinations to be performed on patients:
#903; determine the appropriate imaging techniques which will provide diagnostic information for the doctor;
#903; calculate details of procedures such as length and intensity of exposure to radiationquot; and settings of recording equipment;

#903; explain procedures to patients, ensure they receive the correct preparation for the procedure and make sure that any concern about radiation processes is minimised';
#903; correctly position the patient and imaging equipment to obtain the best image of the area being examined;
#903; ensure the patient's welfare during the examination, including radiation safety;
#903; calculate the correct technical factors necessary to obtain the correct radiation exposure to the patient;

#903; develop the x-ray films;
#903; check films after they are processed to determine if any further views are necessary; and
#903; operate special equipment such as fluoroscopy equipment (which gives a moving image of the part being examined), angiography equipment (which images blood vessels) and computed tomography (CT) equipment (which gives cross-sectional) images of the body). Medical imaging technologists who are employed in hospital may work in the radiology department, use mobile x-ray units at patients' bedside or work in an operating theatre. They work as part of a team with other health professionals, medical staff and nursing staff.

Hours of work may involve weekend or shift work. Participation in an on-call roster for after-hours emergencies may also be required.
Medical imaging technologists may specialise as sonographers who operate ultrasound machines and related equipment to produce images for medical diagnostic purposes.
Personal requirements include an interest and ability in science, the ability to work accurately and as part of a team and understanding approach.

Radiography Courses
There are two types of Radiographers viz. Diagnostic Radiographers and Therapeutic Radiographer. A diagnostic radiographer takes X-ray photographs of the patients. He knows how to photograph those particular part of patients body by handling the X-Ray machines in such a manner that it helps the doctor in diagnosing the disease. He has to work under a medically qualified radiologist.
Theraputic Radiographer treats the patients by using X-Ray, radium and radioactive isotopes for cure of diseases. In fact he not only administers actual treatment but has to maintain very cordial relationship with the patient to boost their moral and confidence.
