Beginning with the first National Drama Festival, organized in collaboration with Delhi Natya Sangh in November 1955, the Akademi has organized several all-India theatre festivals and seminars. One of the notable theatre events organized by the Akademi was the Nehru Shatabdi Natya Samaroh in 1989, a retrospective of modem Indian theatre. Fifteen significant plays in various Indian languages, produced by some of the country's most gifted directors, were presented during this festival, together with associated events like meetings with participating directors, actors, and playwrights
