Over the years Sangeet Natak Akademi has built up a large archives of audio-tapes, photographs, slides and films on the performing arts and it has also added video-tapes to this collection. The photographs and recordings are largely the work of the Documentation Unit of the Akademi, augmented by copies from diverse sources.

By way of dissemination of the material in the archives, the Akademi offers at nominal cost copies of all photographic material, facilities for listening to recording and viewing videos, as well as music-dubbing and film - screening facilities.Material from the Akademi's archives has been extensively used on television, films, publications and research in the performing arts of India.
