One year Certificate Course in Hindustani Music & Karnatak Music (For Foreigners only)
A candidate seeking admission to the One year Certificate Course in Hindustani/Karnatak Music must ha e a basic aptitude and knowledge of music in Karnatak Music/Hindustani Music evidenced by an entrance test held by the Department of Music, Faculty of Music and Fine Arts and such other qualifications as prescribed by the Music Courses Admission Committee from time to time.

Age Requirement: 17 years as on 1st October of the year of admission. Provided that the Vice-Chancellor may on the basis of individual merit, relax the age limit up to a maximum period of one year.

Medium of instruction:
(a) Hindustani Music: The instructions will be imparted in English language only.

(b) Karnatak Music: The instructions will be imparted in English language only.

Course of Study: The course of study and scheme of examination for certificate Course is given below. The Course will lay special emphasis on the attainment of detailed study of theory and practical aspects of Indian classical music scheme of

Paper - I Theory           2 Hours
There will be one theory paper of two hour duration covering the
following course proposed.        100 Marks

Paper - II Practical
Practical – Performance and Viva Voce                           100 Marks

There is half an hour practical examination in which 15 minutes shall be given to the candidate to present choice raga. There will be a set of four examiners, two internal (one from vocal, one from instrumental) and two external (one from vocal, one from instrumental)

Examinations shall be conducted by the University at the end of the academic year and candidates who have pursued a regular course of study for one academic year shall be allowed to appear for Part I examination subject to fulfillment of other conditions.

Attendance Requirements: A student admitted to Certificate course has to attend not less than 3/4 of the lectures delivered and practicals held in each subject in each academic year.


9.Minimum Pass Marks & Classification of Results: The minimum marks required to pass the examination is 40%. The successful candidates of .the examination is classified as follows:

Distinctions- 75% or above

1st Division- 60% marks in aggregate

IInd Division- 50% to 59% marks in aggregate

Pass- Minimum 40%
