Classification

Broadly, four phyla based primarily on organelles of locomotion, i.e., the means of motality have been recognised for the purpose of classification of protozoa.

These phyla are: the Mastigophora (flagellates), the Rhizopoda or Sarcoding (pseudopodiates), the Ciliophora (ciliates), and Sporozoa (sporeformers).
