The following categories of Officers and Crew for its modern Bulk invites applications from unmarried Male & Female Graduates in Mechanical Engineering/Naval Architecture for the post of Trainee Marine Engineer.

Minimum Qualification & Age: Graduates in Mechanical Engineering/Naval Architecture from an Engineering College recognised by AICTE (Ministry of Human Resource Development). Equivalent degrees or degrees with specialisation or electives are not acceptable. Candidate must be in possession of valid engineering degree/Provisional certificate. Must have secured minimum 50% marks in final year of engineering and at least 50% marks in English language at Xth std. or at 10 + 2 level.
Age should not exceed 24 years. Age relaxation of three years is given to OBC candidates and five years for SC/ST. Two years age relaxation is given to women candidates.
Trainee Programme: Trainee Programme is of one-year duration comprising of residential pre-sea training. Selected candidates undergo residential pre-sea training at Training Institute, approved by the Directorate General of Shipping.

Course Fees: The cost of Pre-sea training includes tuition fees, books, lodging, boarding, uniform. etc., and is borne by the candidates. The training fees is approximately Rs. 1,75,000/- (one lakh Seventy Fite Thousand rupees only) and payable directly to the Training Institutes. In case, the training fees are increased by the Training Institutes, the same will be payable by the Candidates. These fees are not refundable. In addition, the candidates are required to pay Rs. 50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand only) to SCI, towards STCW Modular Courses and other expenses. Before joining the ship, candidate should obtain passport with ECNR and CDC, which will take about 45 days time. Full amount is to be paid prior commencement of the shore based training. Fees once paid are not refundable under any circumstances, either in full or in part.
Career Prospects: On successful completion of one year training and after obtaining Ministry of Transport Class IV Part ‘A’ Certificate of competency from the Directorate General of Shipping, Candidates are posted as Fifth Engineer Officers on any of the vessels owned/managed by SCI. Gross salary payable to a Fifth Engineer Officer would be as per INSA / MUI Agreement and at present is approximately Rs. 45,000/- per month. With further experience at sea and on obtaining higher Certificates of Competency, the incumbents have the opportunity to rise to the rank of Chief Engineer Officer.

Entrance Test / Interview: (1) Eligible Candidates are required to appear for a written test in Technical Knowledge, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability. Question papers are bilingual i.e. in English and Hindi. (2) Written test is likely to be held on July at Kolkata / Chennai / Guwahati / Mumbai and new Delhi centres. (3) Candidates, successful in written test, are called for interview, medical test and final selection at Mumbai. (4) Bonafide SC/ST Candidates called for written test and interview are entitled for Second Class train fare from their place of residence to the nearest place of written test/interview center, as per Govt. of India Rules. Attested photocopy of Caste Certificate and documentary evidence of travel must be produced to claim journey fare. (5) SCI doess not provide any lodging or boarding to the Candidates attending written test and interview.

Medical Standards: (1) Candidates being on SCI ships should be healthy and physically fit for sea service as per STCW 95/MS Medical rules 2000 as determined by SCI’s Medical Officer and applicable to seafarers. (2) Eyesight: Unaided vision of 6/12 in both eyes or 6/9 in good eye and 6/18 in the other eye. (3) Candidates having defective colour vision (colour blindness) will be rejected.
Service Agreement: Selected candidates have to serve SCI for a minimum period of four years after they obtain MOT Class IV Part ‘A’ Certificate of Competency. SCI may reimburse Rs. 25,000/- as Service Bonus to candidates after serving SCI for the minimum period.
General Instructions
(1) The Applicant should ensure that he fulfils the eligibility criteria, regarding educational qualifications, age and eyesight. Particulars furnished in the Application Form should be correct in all respect.

(2) If any false / incorrect information furnished by the Applicant is detected at any stage, his candidature will not be considered and if selected, he will be removed from the training course and course fees will forfeited.
(3) Course fees, once paid, will not be refunded, partly or otherwise, under any circumstances.
(4) As the applications are processed by a computerised system, it is essential that the application is forwarded strictly in accordance with the prescribed format.
(5) Duly filled in Application Form should have one photograph pasted and Demand Draft attached. Originals / photocopies of certificates etc. should not be sent with application form.
(6) Candidates should possess at least EIGHT (8) recent passport size photographs (front view) and these Photographs only must be used on Application Form, Admit Card, Interview, Medical Examination, Pre-sea training etc. Any change of photograph will disqualify the Candidate.
(7) Candidates, who have appeared for Final Year Degree Examination and awaiting results, can also apply but have to produce provisional pass certificate issued by university before August.
(8) Candidates, at the time of interview have to produce AICTE approval letter from the College Principal, indicating approval letter number issued by AICTE that the College is approved for Mechanical Engineering/ Naval Architecture Course and the period of approval of the college for course. The letter from the Principal must also indicate clearly that the validity of the AICTE approval covers the entire duration of the course that the Candidate attended. Failure to produce AICTE approval letter from the College Principal, at the time of interview, will lead to cancellation of his Candidature.
(9) Sponsoring of selected Candidates to various Training Institutes will be at the sole discretion of SCI.
(10) All communication will be sent at the address given in the application. Request for change in address will not be entertained.
(11) SCI takes no responsibility for any delay / loss of any application or communication in postal transit.
(12) SCI reserves the right to accept or reject any application without assigning any reasons and no communication in this regard will be entertained.
(13) SCI reserves the right to postpone / cancel the selection process for recruitment of TMEs at any stage without assigning any reasons and no communication in this regard will be entertained.
