Short Service commissioned Officers in Technical Branches (Submarine Cadre) in the Indian Navy

Unmarried male Indian citizens are offered Short Service Commission in Technical Branches (Submarine Cadre) of the Indian Navy.

Eligibility: Age: Between 191/2 to 25 years.

Educational Qualification:
B.E./B.Tech. (or equivalent) with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in any of the following: (a) Engineering Branch: Mechanical (b)

Electrical Branch: (i) electrical, (ii) Electronics (iii) Tele-Communications (iv) Control Engineering

Physical Standards: (a) Height and Weight: Minimum height 157 cms. with correlated weight. (b) Eye Sight: 6/24, 6/24 correctable to 6/6 in each eye with glasses. Should not be colour/night blind.

Duration of Commission
The commission is granted for a term of 10 years, extendable to 14 years. On completion of tenure of SSc, officers are released with gratuity as admissible under the rules.

Selection Procedure:
(a) Short-listed candidates are likely to be detailed for Selection Board (SSB) interviews held at Bangalore, Bhopal or Coimbatore, followed by a medical examination.
(b) The duration of SSB interview is 5 days. During their stay at the SSB. candidates are assessed in Psychological Tests, Individual Tasks, Group Tasks, Group Discussions and interview.
(c) Those who are recommended by SSB, undergo a medical examination. Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit are appointed for training in the order of merit, depending on the number of vacancies only after verification of the original certificates.
(d) Candidates finally selected for Submarine Cadre are inducted as officers in the rank of sub-lieutenant and undergo Naval Orientation Course at the Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala followed by professional training in other Navel Training Establishments/Ships. On completion of the training, the candidates have to pass Submarine Qualifying Board.

On entry total emoluments are approx. Rs. 14,000/ - p.m. in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant Officers. The officers are entitled to 60 days Annual Leave and 20 days Casual Leave, Leave Travel Concession, free medical services for self and family including dependent parents, Group Insurance of Rs. 10 lakhs, canteen facilities and other concessions are also available.
